Dirt Wars III

The National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA) Dirt Wars presented by Goodyear will take center stage on Friday night at Carolina Speedway for Round One of the two race playoff series.

One driver who has the event circled on his calendar is Matt Stover.

The Gastonia, NC native raced his way to the 2012 NDRA Track Championship at Carolina Speedway. Stover used a very consistent season to claim the title in the highly competitive division. With NDRA Late Model car counts averaging right at 20 per night, Stover had his work cut out for him as he claimed his first title in only his second year of Late Model competition.

We really didn't set out to points race at the beginning of the year. We just happened to have some good finishes and we stayed up front. It played out good so we just kept trucking. Once we got to half way through the season we decided to focus on trying to win the championship and it paid off for us.

Stover will definitely be one of the cars to beat on Friday night as he has an extensive amount of laps at the 4/10 mile oval.

There is a lot of money on the line that's for sure. We have a lot of seat time at Carolina and I think we have a good shot. We are going to approach the event just like we would for a normal Friday night with our set up and we will see how it goes, added Stover.

Stover's championship winning car is littered with sponsors that help him and his team gets to the track. Franklin Signs and Graphics, Long Creek Fish Fry, TNT Race Cars, Stover Custom Homes, Choice Landscaping, Wright's Body Shop, Doug Diesel, Carolina Clutch and Piedmont Safety, all adorn the black #26.

The $3,000 to win main event will feature the very best of the best GM Performance Late Model racers in the Carolinas. The show then moves on to the big mile of Lancaster Speedway on Saturday night Sept. 15th for another $3,000 to win feature event. Last year Ron Parker swept the weekend to claim the $6,000 first place prize money.

Friday night the gates open at 5:00 pm, with racing at 8:00 pm. Also on the card for Carolinas event is the 006 Performance Open Wheel Modified Southern Shootout Tour race. $500 to win Street Stock/Limited Sportsman event. $500 to win Four Cylinder feature and a $250 to win Hornet main event. A tire sample taken following qualifying for the event, did not match the benchmark sample at the independent laboratory, thus resulting in disqualification.

Dennis "Rambo" Franklin will inherit the victory following the ruling.

Baker Takes The Win!

Brandy Baker added his name to an impressive list of racers who have captured NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance feature wins in 2012 as the veteran racer claimed the $2,000 win at Lancaster Speedway Saturday night.

Baker, who competes weekly at Lancaster in several divisions, used his extensive knowledge of the big 1/2 mile oval to set fast time in qualifying. Steve Banal, who made repairs after a hard wreck on Friday night at Carolina Speedway, joined Baker on the front row. As the green waved Baker bolted to the lead on a super-fast surface that had two different rain showers on it during the program.

Rambo Franklin quickly joined the lead duo and made it a three car race for the lead as the Gaffney, SC veteran drove to second. Ross Bailes, aboard the John Page owned Mastersbilt also joined the trio as he rallied to third, past Banal and began to put some heat on Franklin, who was all over Baker for the lead.

With the lead trio racing door to door once again Mother Nature showed up as it began to rain. The event was called officially on lap 33 with Baker securing the victory. Franklin, Bailes, Banal and Jeff Smith completed the top five. Sixth through tenth wen to Ron Parker, Gib Gibbons, Timbo Mangum, Jonathan Edwards and Matt Long.

Lancaster Road Show

The National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA) Road Show presented by Heintz Performance will take center stage this Saturday night July 28th at the legendary Lancaster Motor Speedway.

The mile speed plant is one of the oldest race tracks in the South and has been a staple on the NDRA schedule the last couple of seasons.

This will be the second Road Show event of 2012 at Lancaster as Ron The Bull Parker took home top honors in the April event over Dan Breuer.

Parker has shared center stage this season on the Road Show circuit. Ross Bailes collected the $2,000 win in the most recent event at Carolina Speedway in late July. The Clover, SC resident will certainly be one of the favorites on hand for the $2,000 victory this time around.

Dennis Rambo Franklin will lead the Road Show contingent into the event with the series points lead. The Gaffney, SC resident has a lot of laps around Lancaster Speedway and will be looking to post his second Road Show win of 2012.

Also on the card for Saturday night will be a Super Street, Crate Sportsman, Pure Stock, Vintage Cars and U Cars. Gates will open at 4:00 with racing at 7:00 PM.

Bailes Takes The Win

Ross Bailes made all the right moves on Friday night at Carolina Speedway as the Clover, SC resident captured the 3rd Annual Firecracker 40 NDRA Road Show event.

Bailes and fast qualifier Jonathan Edwards brought the field to the green flag for the 40 lap affair held under record high temperatures. After racing door to door for the first lap and a half Bailes finally emerged with the lead.

Hard charging Chris Ferguson, who started 8th quickly made his way through the field and took the top spot on lap 10. The popular driver known as "Fergy" had his hopes of a win erased just a few laps later when he went to the pits with overheating issues.

This gave Bailes the lead once again, and this time he refused to let it go. Dennis "Rambo" Franklin came on late but ran out of laps as Bailes took the checkers. Franklin, Gib Gibbons was third with Timbo Mangum fourth and Gary Puckett fifth. Donnnie Austin was sixth with Anthony Sanders, Jonathan Edwards, Cliff Houser and Micahel Brown rounding out the top five.

Only seven cars finished the event on the lead lap as high temperatures took their toll on the entries.

The Gaffney, SC veteran will be looking to add the $2,000 winner's check to his back account but will have plenty of stiff competition. Franklin captured the last "Road Show" event at I-77 Speedway. This vaulted him into the point lead.

Ferguson Wins In Charlotte!

Chris Ferguson would simply not take no for an answer. The young Mt Holly, NC driver stalked race long leader Ron Parker until he was finally able to secure the winning pass with just three laps remaining to score the NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance victory at 'The Dirt Track' Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"I can't say enough about my crew tonight," said Ferguson. "There isn't one of them over there over 21 years old."

Parker the defending series champion took off as the green flag waved from his front row starting spot. Ferguson, the fastest of the 40 qualifiers quickly advanced from fourth to second and began to stalk Parker. The first of several cautions slowed the field with "Bad" Brad Smith flipped violently down the front stretch, collecting Donnie Austin and several more. All drivers were ok but Smith's mouth was badly damaged.

As the field went green once again it was Parker out front with Ferguson a close second. Two drivers who were on the move were Dennis "Rambo" Franklin and Jeff Smith. Both drivers started outside the top ten but quickly made their way toward the front.

With Parker using the cushion to make his way around the 3/8 mile oval, Ferguson was using the extreme inside. Ferguson was able to pull even several times with the Belwood, NC veteran but each time Parker could use the momentum to swing back by the popular young driver known as "Fergy".

Finally on lap 23 Parker's car jumped the cushion in turn four allowing Ferguson to power his Barry Wright built machine to the lead.

Ferguson was able to driver away to collect the $2,000 win. Parker, Franklin, Dan Breuer and Smith rounded out the top five.

Michael Brown was quickest in qualifying but after the top four drew, he ended up starting fourth. As the green waved Parker quickly worked his way to the front. The first caution was for the hometown favorite Brandy Baker who went up in flames. Luckily the safety crew was on site instantly and they were able to put out the fire.

After the restart Rambo was able to pull along side Parker and challenge him for the lead. They stayed side by side through the turns for most of the race until Rambo's car began to fade. Parker was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the race. Hard charging Dan Breuer who started near the rear, looked like he might have had something for Parker but he ran out of laps as the checkers flew. Parker, Breuer, Rambo, Austin and Sanders rounded out the top five.

'Road Show' Round 2

Fresh off a fantastic opening round of the NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance, that saw 32 cars chase Jeff Smith to the checkered flag at Carolina Speedway, the NDRA is set for round two this weekend at the famed Lancaster Speedway as part of the inaugural Carolina Crown.

Just like Carolina this event will pay the winning driver $3,000. Lancaster Speedway is one of the most historic race tracks in the South and has played host to several NDRA events in the past. In 2011 hometown favorite Timbo Mangum thrilled the huge crowed with a Road Show victory in late July. Ron Parker, who cut his Late Model teeth at the big 1/2 mile scored the $3,000 Dirt Wars presented by Goodyear victory in September and will certainly be one of the favorites on hand this weekend.

The Carolina Crown is a $20,000 to win Super Late Model event. The race is the brain child of Cody Sommer and many of the nation's top Super Late Model drivers are expected to be on hand, for what is the largest paying race in the history of South Carolina.

We are very proud to be a part of the inaugural Carolina Crown, said NDRA's Larry Lee. They have put together a heck of a program and we know we are going to give them a great show.

The NDRA portion will see all drivers qualify on Friday night March 16th. The top ten from time trials will be locked into Saturday's feature event. The top four will have a re-draw during opening ceremonies on Saturday. Drivers qualifying 11th on back will run heats on Friday night with a last chance event to be ran Saturday.

Smith Takes The 'Road Show' Opener

Jeff Smith's list of racing accomplishments got a little bit bigger on Saturday night, as the Dallas, NC veteran added an NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance victory to his resume, as he captured the $3,000 victory at Carolina Speedway.

32 cars checked in for qualifying with Pageland, SC's "Downtown" Michael Brown topping the stout field for the $500 FK Rod Ends Fast Qualifier award. Defending NDRA Champion Ron Parker clocked in second with Smith third and former Skyler Trull Memorial winner Dean Bowen in fourth. The re-draw saw Bowen draw the pole with Smith to his outside.

As the green waved Smith took advantage of his front row starting spot and sped to the early lead over Bowen, Parker and Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin. Parker was able to muscle by Bowen around the mid-point for second and began to reel in Smith.

Several cautions threw the mid-point of the event allowed Parker to close in on Smith's rear bumper but the third generation racer was to strong and held on for the win. Parker, Bowen, Franklin and Brown rounded out the top five.

2012 Schedule

The National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA) is proud to announce the working schedule for the NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance.

The season opened up a couple weeks back as Jeff Smith claimed the $3,000 victory and took the early point lead in the series.

The next event will be the make-up for the March 17th race at Lancaster Speedway that was postponed due to rain. That event will be on April 7th. Michael Brown and Ron Parker will bring the field to green as preliminary events locked the top 22 in.

I-77 Speedway will host a couple of events with the first coming on May 12th. The Darryl Trull and Melisa Ervin promoted facility is located on Highway 9 just outside of Chester, SC.

Charlotte Motor Speedway's Dirt Track will play a big role in the NDRA schedule with pair events. The first event will be Friday night May 25th as part of the World of Outlaws 'Outlaw Showdown'. The second event will take place on Wednesday night October 10th and will have an All Star type format.

The big mile of Lancaster Speedway will once again be a focal point of NDRA drivers as the legendary speed plant will also host a pair of events. Carolina Speedway will host their second Road Show date on Friday night June 29th.

Several dates are yet to be filled but announcements will be forthcoming.

NDRA Road Show Ready To Roll For 2012

National Dirt Racing Association officials are thrilled to announce some big money shows for the start of the 2012 NDRA Road Show presented by Heintz Performance.

The season will kick off as part of the 12th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial on March 9-10 at Carolina Speedway. This will be a $3,000 to win event. Then the next week the NDRA Road Show will be on the card for the inaugural Carolina Crown at Lancaster Motor Speedway. This will also be a $3,000 to win main event.

This should be a great way to kick off the 2012 season, stated NDRA's Larry Lee. $6,000 in two weeks should bring in some heavy hitters for those shows.

Officials are nearing completion of the NDRA Road Show schedule as it will be released in the coming weeks. Several new tracks have expressed interest in hosting events.
