NDRA Crowns 2009 Champions At Inaugural Awards Ceremony
(Concord, NC) – In an atmosphere already filled with racing memories, the National Dirt Racing Association claimed its own piece of history by conducting its inaugural Awards Ceremony at Charlotte Motor Speedway this past Saturday. With the historic super speedway in the background, the NDRA recognized its weekly track champions, honored the top ten finishers in the National Points, and crowned Hunter Peacock as its 2009 National Champion.
Peacock claimed the inaugural championship by being victorious in night 1 of the NDRA finals and then surviving a chaotic finale in which many of the championship contenders faced severe mechanical issues and obstacles. The Georgia native also claimed the NDRA Touring Title as well. Pilot Mountain, NC ‘s Winky McGee was recognized as the runner up finisher in both the Touring and National series. McGee was also recognized for his track championship at Rolling Thunder Raceway. Carolina Speedway’s Gary Puckett rounded out the top 3 in the National Championship. Puckett claimed the weekly championship at Carolina Speedway and then rode a series of consistent finishes to claim 3rd in the National Championship standings.
The Top Ten in the NDRA National Championship included: Hunter Peacock (1st), Winky McGee (2nd), Gary Puckett (3rd), Mitchell Coble (4th), Matt Long (5th), Timbo Mangum (6th), Jason Pack (7th), Jason Walls (8th), Brandy Baker (9th), and Kent Peckham (10th).
The Weekly Track Champions included Brandy Baker (Lancaster), Robbie Stevens (311 Fastrack), Kent Peckham (Friendship), Gary Puckett (Carolina), Winky McGee (Rolling Thunder), John Eller (Antioch), and Adam Yarbrough (Cleveland County).
Several teams and NDRA member tracks were represented at the ceremony. Marketing partners Goodyear, City Chevrolet, Heintz Performance, GM Performance Parts and Wells Fargo were recognized for their contributions to the series. The festivities ended with a brief preview of the 2010 season, with more specific details set for announcement in the near future.
